3. Why does inhaled air need to be warmed, filtered, and moistened?
6. How old was your pig? How did you determine the age and what was your length?
5.08 cm ~66 days
2. Why is the skin such an important organ? List 3 functions of the skin.
2. Why is the skin such an important organ? List 3 functions of the skin.
The skin is an important organ in making sure this three functions are handled.
- protection
- regulation
- sensation
3. Why does inhaled air need to be warmed, filtered, and moistened?
To remove all solid substances from it along with the moisture to make sure the lungs do not dry out.
4. How do materials pass back and forth between the fetus and the mother?
4. How do materials pass back and forth between the fetus and the mother?
The fetus is connected to the placenta by a tube called the umbilical cord. The cord contains two arteries and a vein. Substances pass back and forth between the mother's and fetus's blood through the placenta and cord. Oxygen and nutrients pass from the mother to the fetus.
5. What is the function of the hard palate?
The hard palate is made up of ridges and is located on the roof of the mouth, which separates the oral and nasal cavities; this makes it possible to eat and breathe simultaneously.

6. How old was your pig? How did you determine the age and what was your length?
100~ birth
We determined age based on the the size of the pig and the length of the pig was 26.5 cm.
Blog Post#2 External Anatomy (Ariel P. and Tiffany B.)
1. Approximately how many days from ferilization would your pig be if it measured 2 inches in length?( Hint: first, convert to cm.)
It will take up to 30-40 days.
2. Why is the skin such an important organ? List 3 functions of the skin.
It is a barrier from ultraviolet radiation, it keeps out harmful substances and disease-producing organisms and aids in regulating the body temperature.
3. Why does inhaled air need to be warmed, filtered, and moistened?
So it doesn't damage the tissue inside the lungs.
4. How do materials pass back and forth between the fetus and the mother?
Substances pass back and forth between the mother's and fetus's blood through the placenta and cord.
It is formed by the palatine process of the maxilla and horizontal plate of palatine bone, and spans the arch formed by the upper teeth.
6. How old was your pig? How did you determine the age and what was your length?
We measured the pig to determine the age. Since our pig was 36cm, it was 115 days old.

2. The skin is such an important organ because it protects all the other organs within the body.
3. Inhaled air need to warmed, filtered, and moistened because cool air changes your body temperature and you need air to keep your lungs moistened.
4. Materials pass back and forth between the fetus and the mother substances like blood and oxygen goes back and forth between the fetus and a mother.
5. The function of the hard palate is a very thin bony plate of the skull. That can be found in the roof of the mouth.
6. Our pig was 115 days which is about 3 months. We determine the age base on the length which was 36cm.

2. Why is the skin such an important organ? List 3 functions of the skin.
Protection, Heat regulation,Excertion, Secretion, and Absorption are some functiona of the skin. Skin is important because it protects your internal organs, regulates your body temperature and tells how your body is doing.
3. Why does inhaled air need to be warmed, filtered, and moistened?
3. Why does inhaled air need to be warmed, filtered, and moistened?
The air needs to be filtered because if your breathe in dirty air then it can damage your lungs. The air need to be warm because we have a body temperature regulator and if the temperature is not regulated, the body function is not optimize.
4. How do materials pass back and forth between the fetus and the mother?
The fetus is connected to the placenta by a tube called the umbilical cord. The cord contains two arteries and a vein. Blood and oxygen are pass through the placenta and cord.
5. What is the function of the hard palate?
5. What is the function of the hard palate?
The hard palate separates the oral and nasa cavaities, bordering the oral cavity superiorly and forming the roof of the mouth and the nasal cavity inferiorly forming its floor.
6. How old was your pig? How did you determine the age and what was your length?
Our pig was at birth. We determined the pig's age by measuring the pig from head to toe in centimeters. Our pig was 30cm long.

the hoof
External Anatomy (Saiswan,Ronjae)
- 59 days away from fertilization.
- The skin regulates body temperture, protect the body from radiation, and excreats toxic substances through sweat.
- Inhaled air needs to be warm, filtered and moist becasue cold air lowers the body temperature, dry air can dry out the lungs and dirty air can cause infections or diseases.
- Materials pass back and forth between the fetus and the mother by using the umbilical cord.
- The hard palate is used to prtect the mouth.
- Our pig was supposed to be born. It was 40cm. We determined the age by measuring the length of the pig.

3. What is the length of a pigs birth cycle in pigs? How does this compare to humans?
4. Which is more distal to the elbow- the wrist or the hoof?
- Are vertebrates (which means they have a backbone or spine).
- Have hair on their bodies.
- Produce milk to feed their babies.
- Domestic pigs can live 15-20 years, but most become pork chops, bacon, and sausage long before that.
3. What is the length of a pigs birth cycle in pigs? How does this compare to humans?
- Although the number of piglets born will increase if mating is postponed, The results from a number of research trials comparing litter size after mating. Pregnancy rates were 69.6% for animals bred at first estrus and 77.4% when a high proportion of aborted human fetuses but not in those from domesticated mammals.
- Distal is away from the center of body trunk or point of attachment. The wrist is farther away from center of body trunk.

Dissection of the Fetal Pig ( Isaiah and Delonta)
1. They are Vertebrates, endorthermic, have hair on their bodies and produce milk or their babies.
2. Domestic pigs live about 15-20 years but most become food. Pigs and hogs belong to the same family.
3. The length of a pigs menstral cycle is 21 days. Usually a human woman's menstral cycle lasts genarally a week.
4. The hoof is the most distal from the elbow.
The ears are anterior to the snout. The anus is posterior to the tail. The tail is dorsal to the umbilical cord. The umbilical cord is ventral to the spine.
Pig Post #1 Dissection of the Fetal Pig (Ronjae and Saiswan )
- All mammals have vertebrates, they are endothermic, produce milk, and have hair on their skin.
- A domestic pig and a wild hog are from the same family which is the Suidae family. They have the same internal structure. However the domestic pig have a longer life span than the wild hog due to the hunting of wild hogs.
- A pig is pregnant for 112-115 days. Humans are pregnant for 10 months.
- The hoof is more distal to the elbow.
- The ear is anterior to the snout. The tail is dorsal to the umbilical cord. The thigh is ventral to the back. The tail is posterior to the ear.

Questions
1. What are some characteristics shared by all mammals?
Some characteristics shared by all mammals are hair and mammary glands. They also have a single dentary bone called the mandible.
2. How are domestic pigs related to wild hogs found in some states?
Domestic pigs live longer but dont live that long because they get turned into food first. Hogs and pigs are from the same family group: Artiodactyla.
3. What is the length of a pigs birth cycle in pigs? How does this compare to humans? The pigs birth cycle is 112-115 days long. A human's birth cycle is 9 months long which is way longer than a pig's.
4. Which is more distal to the elbow- the wrist or the hoof?
The wrist is more distal to the elbow.
5. Post a picture of the pig and give the orientation using the following terms, anterior, posterior, dorsal , and ventral.

3. Muscles can train very easily.
4. The smallest muscle in the human body is in your ear.
5. For every step that you take during the day, you’re exercising 200 muscles at the same time.
6. What makes the muscular system so unique is the fact that they do not have the ability to push at all.
7. When a human is born, they get all of the muscle fibers that they’ll have throughout their life.
8. The strongest muscle belongs to the tongue.
9. When someone smiles, they are using 17 muscles. When someone frowns, they are using over 40 muscles.
10. There are muscles in the root of your hair that give you goosebumps
11. The largest muscle in the body is the Butt
12. The hardest working muscle is the eye
13. The muscle that lets you blink is the fastest muscle in the body
14. The hardest muscle in the body is the chin

Bioethics Discussion (Nunu)
Chapter 1 - Martin Needs Medical Treatment (or does he?)
1) What is wrong with Martin?
2) Do you think Martin should have genetic treatment (if it possible) to correct his problem? Why or why not?
3) Do you think Martin should avoid having children in order o no pass along his condition? Why or why not?
4) What is the difference between ethical, legal, and social issues?
5) Chapter vocabulary
Chapter 2 - Priya should find out if she has inherited a fatal disease (or should she?)
1) Describe the disease Priya's mother had?
2) If you were Priya, would you get tested for this disease? Why or Why not?
3) If Priya is tested and found to have the gene for the disease, who else has a right to know?
4) What are the pros and cons of having this genetic test performed?
5) Chapter vocabulary
1) What is wrong with Martin?
- Martin has a skin pigmentation disorder; he is very pale with white hair. His eyes are sensitive to strong light and if exposed to the sun, he can risk getting sun burn and/or skin cancer.
2) Do you think Martin should have genetic treatment (if it possible) to correct his problem? Why or why not?
- I think Martin should undergo genetic treatment because he would be able to regain eyes and skin color, as well as, not be sensitive to the sun and laughed at. He would simply have a happy life.
3) Do you think Martin should avoid having children in order o no pass along his condition? Why or why not?
- I think Martin should not avoid having children due to the risk of passing his condition to his offspring because as long as he have sex with a non albino, he most likely has at least a 50/50 chance to not pass it on to his offspring.
4) What is the difference between ethical, legal, and social issues?
- An ethical issue consists of morality and principals to solve a conflict. Legal issues are concerns that arise from the law. Social issues are issues that influences a considerable number of individuals within a society.
5) Chapter vocabulary
- Albino -A person or animal having a congenital absence of pigment in the skin and hair
- Genetics -The study of heredity and the variation of inherited characteristics.
- Pigment -The natural coloring matter of animal or plant tissue.
- Gene -A unit of heredity that is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring.
Chapter 2 - Priya should find out if she has inherited a fatal disease (or should she?)
1) Describe the disease Priya's mother had?
- Priya's mother had an illness called Huntington's disease. The disease is a genetic disorder that affects muscle coordination and leads to mental decline and behavioral symptoms, such as, twitching and not being able to control speech and body movements.
2) If you were Priya, would you get tested for this disease? Why or Why not?
- If I was Priya I would get tested because I would want to know if I have the disease or not. In particular, I would want to know so I can prevent passing it on to my children.
3) If Priya is tested and found to have the gene for the disease, who else has a right to know?
- If she Priya found out that she have the gene for the disease her family and friends should be informed, but I think her boyfriend and children should have the right to know.
4) What are the pros and cons of having this genetic test performed?
- Pros of getting tested are finding out and being on the safe side. Cons are finding out and it destroying your social life, such as, losing your family and friends or attempting suicide.
5) Chapter vocabulary
- Stethoscope genetic counseling -The counseling of individuals with established or potential genetic problems, concerned with inheritance patterns and risks to future offspring.
- Mutation -Is a permanent alteration of the nucleotide sequence of the genome of an organism, virus, or extrachromosomal DNA or other genetic elements.
- Human Genome Project -Is an international scientific research project with the goal of determining the sequence of chemical base pairs which make up human DNA, and of identifying and mapping all of the genes of the human genome from both a physical and functional standpoint.
- Disorder -A state of confusion.

Bioethics(Saiswan &'d Ronjae) Ch 2.
6. Describe the disease Priya's mother had ?
Her mom had Huntington disease, which is an inherited disease and its a progressive breakdown of nerves in the brain.
I would get tested because the disease is something that you can inherit and that means when your in middle age which is when the disease occurs you could also have it so its better to know and not have to worry than stress and worry forever.
Pros- You would know and live your life in a better way, also you will let they worry go that you have or don't have it once you get tested.
Human Genome Project- scientists from around the world who decided to learn the language of the genes.
disorder- problems in how your body functions
Her mom had Huntington disease, which is an inherited disease and its a progressive breakdown of nerves in the brain.
7. If you were Priya's would you get tested for the disease? Why not?
I would get tested because the disease is something that you can inherit and that means when your in middle age which is when the disease occurs you could also have it so its better to know and not have to worry than stress and worry forever.
8. If Priya's is tested and found to have the gene for the disease, who else has right to know? (her family, her employers, her boyfriend...) Explain your answer.
Anyone she wants to know has the right if she doesn't want nobody to know than they shouldn't know because its her life and maybe she doesn't want nobody feeling bad for her and worrying about her. so if she decides to tell anyone she can. If she doesn't want to than she doesn't have to.

9. What are the pros (good points) and cons (bad points) of having this genetic tested performed?
Pros- You would know and live your life in a better way, also you will let they worry go that you have or don't have it once you get tested.
Cons- Getting tested can also be a bad thing because, once you know you know and you have no way to not think about it. You may let the fact that you know it will stress you out and maybe take control over your thinking.
10. Chapter Vocabulary
Stethoscope genetic counseling- is extremely important for anyone wanting to get information about their genes. Which they get for counseling from professional advisors who are experts on genetics and get great information that can possible help you.

Chapter 2 - Priya Should Find Out If She Has Inherited a Fatal Disease (or should she?)
6. Describe the disease Priya's mother had?
Priya's mother had Huntington's disease. it caused mood swings, and muscle spasms. there is a 100% percent fatality rate and it usually strikes people in there middle ages.
7. If you were Priya, would you get tested for this disease? Why or Why not?
Yes I would want to get tested because I would not want to put my love ones through the pain of watching me go through the
symptoms.=================================================================================================================================================================================================================
8. If Priya is tested and found to have the gene for the disease, who else has a right to know? (her family, her employers, her boyfriend...) Explain your answer.
if Priya has the gene then she can tell who ever she feels needs to know. But technically its is no ones right to know her medical status. unless she wants kids then she should tell her boyfriend, because of the hereditary nature of the disease.
9. What are the pros (good points) and cons (bad points) of having this genetic test performed?
The pros would be that you are aware if you have the disease or not and you would be aware for the future and can plan for it. The cons would be that if it turns out you do have you will lose the hope of not having it.
10. Chapter Vocabulary
