Blog Post#2 External Anatomy (Ariel P. and Tiffany B.)


1.   Approximately how many days from ferilization would your pig be if it measured 2 inches in length?( Hint: first, convert to cm.)
It will take up to 30-40 days.


2.  Why is the skin such an important organ?  List 3 functions of the skin.

It is a barrier from ultraviolet radiation, it keeps out harmful substances and disease-producing organisms and aids in regulating the body temperature.

3.  Why does inhaled air need to be warmed, filtered, and moistened?
So it doesn't damage the tissue inside the lungs.

4.  How do materials pass back and forth between the fetus and the mother?
Substances pass back and forth between the mother's and fetus's blood through the placenta and cord.


    5.  What is the function of the hard palate?
    It is formed by the palatine process of the maxilla and horizontal plate of palatine bone, and spans the arch formed by the upper teeth.

    6.  How old was your pig?  How did you determine the age and what was your length? 
    We measured the pig to determine the age. Since our pig was 36cm, it was 115 days old.
