Bioethics Blog Post-Chapter 2

Instructions: Each chapter describes a scenario where a decision must be made about a medical treatment. Read the scenarios and think about the problem. As a group, read the scenario you are assigned and discuss the answers to the questions. You will be assigned several chapters for your group to read. At the end, you will share your story with the rest of the class. Today, everyone will read chapter 2 and work independently.



Chapter 2 - Priya Should Find Out If She Has Inherited a Fatal Disease (or should she?)
6. Describe the disease Priya's mother had?
7. If you were Priya, would you get tested for this disease? Why or Why not?
8. If Priya is tested and found to have the gene for the disease, who else has a right to know? (her family, her employers, her boyfriend...) Explain your answer.
9. What are the pros (good points) and cons (bad points) of having this genetic test performed?

    2) no because even though it effects his eye sight and he is bullied for it, it makes him different and he is still beautiful
    3) yes because in my opinion I love albino people
    4) Ethical issues concern what is moral or right legal issues concern the protections that laws or regulations should provide and social issues concern how society as a whole will be affected by events.
    5) albino- a operas on with lack of pigment in the hair and skin and have trouble with eye sight
    genetics- the study of how traits are passed down
    pigment- the gives your skin, hair and eyes

    Priya’s mother had Huntington's disease. The Huntington’s disease can cause bad twitching arms and legs, mood swings, and loss of control of movements.

    7. If you were Priya, would you get tested for this disease? Why or Why not?

    I would take the test if I was Priya because her mother had it and it’s a small chance Priya might have the disease. Once I find out about the disease then I can take the next step necessary steps like treatment.

    8. If Priya is tested and found to have the gene for the disease, who else has a right to know?

    Priya family has the right to know first
    Pros- Seeing if whether or not she got the disease Cons- If she has the disease
